Changelog

What's new in layman.

Every layman release: new features, improvements and fixes for the private AI bar on Windows and Mac.

1.2 October 13, 2026

  • Web answers in the bar. Short answers from Wikipedia, with optional Tavily and Serper keys for more; a longer answer with sources and a reader view.
  • Replace selection. Rewrite selected text and put the result back where it was. Actions now fit the app you're in: email, chat, notes, documents, code or the web.
  • Updates inside the app. Signed releases are checked every 6 hours; an icon in the bar installs them in one click.
  • Smart search. A redesigned launcher that understands loose wording, matches apps by nickname and initials, and lists apps first.
  • Suggestions with reasons. Habits, routines, repeated steps saved as commands, actions for what you just copied, help with errors on screen, and email reply drafts.
  • Two-way lookups. Colours, countries, currencies, time zones, languages, airports, postal codes, stocks, symbols, character codes, HTTP status codes, ports, file types, units and dates.
  • More ways to open it. A quick tap of Ctrl+Shift, or a three-finger tap on the touchpad.
  • Productivity. To-dos, snippets that expand in any app, workspaces, a stopwatch, reminders, calendar feeds with a Join button.
  • System tools. PC health, processes, clean temporary files, Bluetooth devices, airplane mode, focus, displays, window layouts, browser tabs and searching inside files.
  • Integrations. GitHub, Home Assistant, Jira, Notion and Slack, plus package tracking, flights, password managers and contacts.
  • Drag files from the bar into other apps, read text from part of the screen, record the screen, take meeting notes from live captions, and talk instead of typing.

1.1 October 12, 2026

  • The launcher. Instant results while you type: apps, settings, open windows, files, bookmarks, clipboard, notes, menu commands and the web, with typo tolerance and filters.
  • Live controls in results. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, dark mode, volume, microphone, brightness, keep awake, power mode, hotspot, per-app volume, now playing and sound output.
  • Quick answers. Calculator, units, currency, time zones, dates, weather, emoji and system info.
  • Vision. Screenshots, snips and pasted images for models that can see.
  • Cloud models with your own key. OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI, Mistral, DeepSeek, Groq and OpenRouter.
  • Search files by meaning with a local model, clipboard history, timers, calendar events, window snapping and multi-step tasks.

1.0 October 11, 2026

  • The first release: an AI bar one shortcut away on Windows and Mac, answering with a model on your own computer.
  • Context from your screen: selected text, window text and selected files.
  • Actions on your computer: apps, volume, brightness, media, settings and power, with commands you approve.
  • One-step setup that installs Ollama and a model for you.
